What is Hot n Sour soup
Hot and Sour soup is a spicy soup made by using some healthy vegetables like mushroom , carrot, cabbage simmering in stock water and seasoning with salt pepper and chilly sauce and tempered with vinegar. Herbs like ginger, garlic , green chili and bamboo shoots are used.
You can make either a non vegetarian version of this soup by adding pork , chicken and beef or a vegetarian version by using beans , carrot, tofu, cabbage , mushroom and tomato.
Due to the use of red chilly sauce, green chili paste and pepper powder, hot and sour soup become spicy. Vinegar gives the sour flavour.
Vegetables : You can use as per your choice. For resturant style soup use vegetables like cabbage, carrot and tomato.
Herbs : Bamboo shoot is a main herbs for the recipe. Other herbs includes ginger, garlic and green chili.
Sauce : red chilly sauce and dark soya sauce. You can even use green chili sauce to increase the heat.
Mushroom : The original recipe requires Shitake mushroom but button mushroom also work fine.
Vinegar : any good quality vinegar can be used. Preferably used rice vinegar.
Chicken : boneless chicken breasts.
Egg : one beaten egg.
Salt : as per your taste.
